Fortcem Spacers

FortCem spacers are intended to be temporarily implanted as an aid in the treatment of prosthetic hip, knee and shoulder infections, by means of a two stages surgical technique.

Shoulder Spacer

FortCem Shoulder Spacer is manufactured using bone cement with a high concentration of antibiotic. The Spacer is reinforced by means of an internal rod made of surgical grade 316L Stainless Steel.
  • Effective local release of a high concentration of antibiotics.
  • Increased mechanical resistance due to an inner reinforcement of a metallic rod.
  • Prevention of the elevation of the humerus and retraction of the muscles. Easier revision and reimplantation surgery.
  • Preservation of the shoulder´s muscle apparatus.
  • Avoidance of rotator cuff retraction as the cuff can be attached to the spacer.
  • Preservation of the shoulder mobility allows for an early rehabilitation.
  • Improved quality of life between surgical steps.

Hip Spacer

FortCem Spacer is made of PMMA Bone Cement loaded with high concentrations of antibiotics.
An internal core made of AISI 316L reinforces the device.
  • Efficient local gentamicin release.
  • Metallic core assures resistance to physiological and mechanical stress.
  • Prevents proximal femoral migration, facilitating the surgical approach during the final revision.
  • Preserves hip muscular function.
  • Rapid patient rehabilitation due to early mobilization.
  • Improved quality of life between surgical steps.

Knee Spacer

The spacer is manufactured with antibiotics loaded cement.
  • Efficient local gentamicin release.
  • Maintains joint space.
  • Preserves joint movement. Simplifies surgical approach, since patellar tendon is free from adherences produced by immobilization.
  • Maintains extensor mechanism and preserves ligament functionallity due to movement.
  • Preserves Lateral Ligaments functional.
  • Better mobilization range than with block spacers.
  • Reduces functional recovery period after a definitive revision surgery.
  • Improved quality of life between surgical steps.
